Happy New Year to all!

Monday 19th December 2011

Six sleeps to go…Things are really busy in the salons now so just a quick blog to say thanks for all your support in 2011. It really has been a great year and we look forward to welcoming you all back into the salons in 2012. We probably won’t blog again until January but remember you can always reach us at the salons or at facebook/HookerAndYoung and @hookerandyoung. Have an amazing Christmas and Happy New Year when it comes.

Monday 5th December 2011

Well, we never won British and the hangover has finally left. It was a great (and late) night and congratulations to Akin Konizi who won British for the third time. Maybe he’ll move over and let someone else have a go, i.e. us! The salons have finalised for Salon Group of the Year at The Fellowship Awards in The Dorchester, but we’ve decided to come to Spain and relax. So this is being written from the beach with a nice, cool cocktail in the other hand. 2011 has been a crazy, busy year for us and we hope 2012 will be just as good, if not better. The salons are filling up fast for Christmas so we’ve escaped for a couple of days before working non-stop over the festive season. Adios amigos.

Monday 28th November 2011

Tonight’s the night. We’re here at The Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane and the atmosphere is electric. We came down with our team and family yesterday and had a nice relaxing day at Selfridges with the off glass of champagne thrown in to start the weekend in style. It’s 2pm and we’ve had our first rehearsal. We’ve caught up with all the other seven nominees who are feeling as nervous as us! We need to prep the hair and get ourselves ready. ITV This Morning are filming the event and we’ve heard there are a few celebrities attending, so win or not, its going to be a good night.

Monday 14th November 2011

The count down to the British Hairdressing Awards has begun and the nerves are rising. We have found two beautiful models and the clothes are amazing. Our new suits are purchased and the team are getting their outfits for the biggest night of the year. Must remember and breathe! We’ve started putting our Christmas decorations up at home as we’re in London for the next three weekends – and it’s taking our minds off the awards. We’ve gone for a contemporary feel this year and found amazing decorations for the salons so watch this space…

Monday 31st October 2011

Happy Halloween guys. We can’t believe it is November tomorrow – scary how fast this year has gone. And we know what November brings …. The British Hairdressing Awards. We’ve got a model casting this week for our show as British Hairdresser of the Year Nominees so back down to London to get that sorted. To celebrate our finalist position in British Colour Technician of the Year we’ve also launched our Colour Revival package, which is ideal if you want to refresh or even re-invent your colour. The package includes a cut and style, a signature colour service and a luxury hair ritual. The normal price is £120, but if you take advantage of this offer you will pay just £60 but it is available for a strictly limited period and is subject to availability so give one of salons a call now!

Monday 24th October 2011

Just back from getting our new profile shots taken. It’s so much easier being on the other side of the camera but we needed to get some new ones taken. The British Hairdressing Awards are fast approaching and we need to send our headshots over for the AV. We’ve included one on the home page so let us know if you like it.

Monday 17th October 2011

We’re at Salon International, the largest hair exhibition in the UK. There are over 40,000 hairdressers that attend this event every year, and we have been coming since, well that would be telling, but a very long time. It’s great to catch up with old friends, make new ones and check out all the latest hairdressing tools. But for us it is especially exciting and nerve wracking to see the British Hairdressing Awards Gallery. This is where all the finalists and nominees collections are displayed to the public for the first time, so you can imagine the anticipation! As British Hairdresser of the Year Nominees we had interviews set up with some of the overseas press that attend Salon, before some filming for hji.co.uk. We were also invited to judged the FAME Team contestants for 2012, which was a great honour but difficult decision. Our lips are sealed though – you’ll need to wait until December to find out who made it.

Monday 19th September 2011

London Fashion Week is in full flow and we’ve some exciting hair over the past few days. Nicola Fahri went for sport chic ponytails, as did Victoria Beckham at NYFW. As we write this Christopher Kane has just finished what is rumoured to be the highlight of LFW, but with Burberry this afternoon we’re saying nothing. Hair was worn in softly dishevelled low ponytails with side partings; actually we are just about to do some quotes for Cosmopolitan about side partings and wearing you hair to one side, like the Kardashians.

This season Burberry are showcasing their looks on twitter before the catwalk – with this kind of direction, we’re guessing it will be Christopher Bailey who chairs fashion week again. G&Mxx

Monday 8th August 2011

On the train back down in London town today – this time we’re judging the work of the next generation of hairdressers. It’s an early start but the good thing about getting the train is that you can work (and update your blog) as you go.

Things have been pretty full on in the salon over the summer months. We’ve seen a huge increase in clients asking for dip dyed ends thanks to a couple of celebs trends. This look can be a tricky to apply so makes sure you visit a colour expert before getting this done. It’s a great colour trend though and variations including pink and rainbow ends will start to make an appearance too.

Right, almost at Kings Cross. So long for just now. G&Mxx

Monday 25th July 2011

We’ve been busy prepping for our British Hairdresser of the Year shoot over the past two weeks. We’re in London today casting for models – we know what we’re looking for but really want to find some beautiful girls that haven’t been used in hairdressing shoots already.

Later today we’re meeting our photographer and clothes stylist so everyone is clear on the brief. It’s all coming together so if we can find the right girls…ahh, can’t even begin to think about actually winning!! G&Mxx

Monday 11th July 2011

What a busy week it’s been we’re just back from Poland where we performed to 2000 people, what an experience! It’s great to be able to take British styles and showcase them all over the world.

Speaking of British we’re thrilled that we’ve been nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year 2011, we’re keeping everything crossed and hopefully all our hard work and praying will pay off. Only time will tell, the awards aren’t until November so we’re sure that by then the suspense and excitement will be killing us.

We’ve just back from judging the L’Oreal colour trophy, which after the British Hairdressing Awards is the biggest event in hairdressing so it’s such an honour to be asked to judge.

Keep an eye out on our facebook for more celebrity news and thoughts from the team. We’re aiming for 1000 likes before the end of July so please recommend us to all your friends :-) G&M

Wednesday 8th June 2011

Soo....since the sun is shining we thought we would share some of our favourite summer hair trends with you lovely lot. Perhaps it will inspire you to go for that pixie crop you've always wanted or to finally reach for the bleach and become a white hot blonde.
White Blonde
Summer wouldn't be summer with out some fabulous blondes, and 2011 is the return of the blondest of blondes, so prepare yourself for some platinum perfection.
Pixie Crop
Emma Watson kick started this trend by going for the daring crop, and we love it on her. She looks more grown up, stylish and absolutely gorgeous
Knots and Plaits
Two perfectly easy to achieve summer looks that are perfect for lounging around the beach or living it up at a festival. A braid is the perfect accessory to add to that maxi dress for some serious grecian goddess style. Topknots are great for the beach, so you can keep your locks dry while relaxing by the pool or taking a dip in the pool.
Bob with Fringe
The bob is back with a bang for summer 2011 and a fringe is the perfect way to add a modern twist to your bob. Soft tousled waves is the way to be wearing a bob this summer think Scarlett Johansson.
Red Alert
Add some fire to your look this summer, celebs are loving red hair in all shades especially coppers. Everyone from Rihanna to Blake Lively seems to be opting for the change.

Thursday 26th May 2011

Hola! Things are heating up in the world of Hooker & Young this week. We have been working on photographic shoots in London with the most beautiful girls and amazing clothes. Too early to give you a sneak preview though as the images are being entered for awards but watch this space and we’ll keep you update with any news!

So Cheryl Cole has moved stateside and super-sized her hair. If rumors are true, we have just heard she has been axed after just two episodes. This is crazy but is it just a pr stunt? We’ve also seen some style statements at Cannes Film Festival, with special attention going to Pénelope Cruz. With fringe or without, that girl just never has a bad hair day.

Monday 16th May 2011

Welcome to our first ever blog. How exciting! We will keep you updated on our travels, style predictions, celebrity news and reviews as well as any inside knowledge from the world of hair that we just couldn’t keep to ourselves. Do hope you enjoy.

Last week saw one of the most glamorous events of the year – The Met Ball. We have been loving the coverage coming in and have chosen our favourite stylish ladies.

Gwyneth – As always cool, sophisticated and on trend. Love the beautiful colour palette of nude and natural tones.
Iman - Bronzed goddess springs to mind. If you're going go metallic do it like this, her whole look shimmers from top to bottom. Love the metallic tones to her blonde.
JLo - Classic J Lo, very sultry and seductive. This look could be a bit severe on some women but J Lo has incredible bone structure making the slicked back look a total winner.
Kate Hudson - This look really suits Kate, natural texture creating a real softness around the face. Nice contrast to the couture evening dress.
Mary - Kate Olson – As usual has her kind of signature hair for and why not she makes the aristocratic bedhead work, we love it! Great dress, love the contrasting green collar and cuffs against the bright red.

Until next time. G&M xx
